Inferential Forms in the Tropoi of Ancient Skepticism and the Role of Exclusive Disjunction

Abstract
This article reconstructs and characterizes the underlying inferential forms in the tropos which lead to the epoché according to the Book I of the Outlines of Pyrronism of Sextus Empiricus. First, the various current interpretations of skeptical argumentative forms of the tropoi. Second, on this basis, an extension of this canonical form to include other inferential forms is proposed, with special attention to the role that exclusive disjunction plays in them as the driving force of skeptical reasoning.
